DRAFT for HSE review & SBR approval. SOW 7.8 requires DTL’s spill and
contamination procedures to be provided to SBR for approval prior to site mobilisation. Site-specific
details (bunding volumes, designated refuelling areas, SBR emergency contacts) to be confirmed on site walk / kick-off.

1Purpose & the environment
Why this matters here. The Works are adjacent to SBR’s crystalliser ponds
— a highly sensitive salt-production environment. A hydrocarbon spill or wind-blown contamination reaching
the ponds could damage product and the environment. Strict prevention, containment and clean-up controls apply.
This procedure describes DTL’s methods for managing, storing, handling, preventing, containing and
cleaning up hydrocarbon spills and other contamination, and for managing waste so there is no risk of
contamination of the pond areas (SOW 7.8).
2Prevention
- Refuelling in designated areas only, on a bunded / spill-tray setup, attended at all times; no refuelling near drains or the pond area.
- Static plant (generators, pumps, fusion machines) on drip trays; daily leak checks at pre-start.
- Fuel & oil storage bunded to capacity, labelled, with SDS held (DTL-HSE-REG-0001 Chemical Register; DTL-HSE-PRO-0018 Hazardous Chemicals).
- Plant condition — no plant with active leaks operates on site until rectified or isolated.

3Spill response
- Stop the source — shut off / upright / plug where safe to do so.
- Contain — deploy spill-kit booms/pads to stop spread, especially any path toward drains or the ponds.
- Notify — report to the SBR site representative immediately, no matter how small (SOW 7.8), and to the DTL Supervisor.
- Recover — absorb and collect contaminated material into labelled waste containers.
- Clean up & dispose — remove contaminated soil; dispose lawfully; restock the spill kit.
- Record — raise an incident report (DTL-HSE-FRM-0001) and review controls.
Spill kits are maintained on site and on vehicles, checked and restocked; all personnel
are briefed on their location and use at induction and toolbox talks.

4Waste & wind-blown contamination
- Rubbish and waste are managed so there is no risk of wind-blown contamination of the crystalliser ponds; bins are covered/secured.
- DTL provides its own bins where necessary to contain rubbish (SOW 7.8).
- No glass is taken into the ponds area (per the SBR induction).
- Waste is segregated (general / recyclable / hydrocarbon-contaminated / hazardous) and disposed of lawfully; records kept (DTL-HSE-PRO-0023 Waste Management).
- Offcuts, packaging and PE debris are collected progressively so nothing is left to blow toward the ponds.
5Roles & supporting documents
- Site Supervisor — ensures controls in place, spill kits stocked, immediate SBR notification of any spill.
- All personnel — work to this procedure; report spills and contamination at once.
